Sweet winter vegetable. Originating from the Near East. One of the earliest of European vegetables, used originally as dried pea, then by the Romans as green peas. Grows on wide variety of soils. Declines if waterlogged. Even bush varieties benefit from support, try pushing twigs into the rows. Climbing peas yield more peas over a longer period. Keeps well in the fridge for weeks, can be frozen. Sow late summer to autumn, spring in cooler areas. (We cannot send to Tasmania.)
